SOUTHAMPTON VILLAGE – A QUAINT VILLAGE
The April 1, 2010 census shows Southampton Village with a year-round population of 3,109. This compares to the total year-round population of the Town of Southampton of 56,790
In the hamlets surrounding the village, the 2010 census reports North Sea’s population as 4,458; Shinnecock Hills as 2,188; Tuckahoe as 1,373; Water Mill as 1,559.
According to the census, the year-round population of Southampton Village has actually decreased 21.6% in the ten years since the 2000 Census was done. Shinnecock Hills is up 25.1%, the North Sea down 0.8%, Water Mill down 9.6% and Tuckahoe down 21.1%
Only the year-round population was counted in the census. In the Village of Southampton, it is typical to see a modest year-round residence replaced by a much larger seasonal home. In fact, 62% of all village homes are now classified as unoccupied by year-round residents. In the summer Southampton Village’s population expands to around 35,000, including Forbes 400 members, dignitaries, and celebrities.
